Our 2nd quarter Membership meeting:

The DCA’s Second Quarter Member Meeting was an Ice Cream Social at Moore’s Soda Fountain. Nina Lovel, webmaster for Coosa Valley Tech shared strategies to help small business get a web presence. Highlights from her informative presentation:

  1. Don't be intimidated! Even non-savvy computer users can build a website. Get at least a business card site- Even a one page site that doesn't change over time can market your business and build credibility.
  2. Tie into existing networks- Check to see if professional organizations that you already belong to offer member services that include web development (The DCA does! Call us!)
  3. Hosting and domain names are inexpensive– you need both. Take advantage of template based sites that let you build your own presence in just minutes.
  4. The DCA can help member businesses can take advantage of the services offered at downtowncedartown.com and ShopMainStreet.org

Peter Mathews from the Small Business Development Center at Georgia Highlands shared his office’s classes and services for starting, developing or marketing your downtown business. Brochures are available at the Welcome Center or visit http://www.sbdc.uga.edu. Thanks to all our members in attendance, to Ruth Worthington of the Oakwood room for the fun party in a bag door prizes and to Moore’s for the Yummy Sundaes!
